Partly-printed vellum DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 15.5 x 19.5, June 3, 1879. President Hayes appoints Augustus H. Gilman "to the grade of Pay Director, relative rank of Captain" in the service of the United States Navy. Crisply signed at the conclusion by President Hayes and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Richard W. Thompson. The blue Navy Department seal affixed at the bottom remains fully intact. In fine condition.
