Description

Freak show performer (1911-1991) missing the lower half of his torso, best known for his role in Tod Browning's 1932 cult classic film Freaks. He was often billed as the amazing 'Half-Boy' and 'King of the Freaks.' Two items: the Maryland driver's license issued to "John Eckhardt Jr." and signed by him at center, 3.75 x 2.5, noting that he is allowed to drive a "miniature automobile operated manually"; and an ALS signed "Johnny Eck," one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, September 18, 1986, in part: "I take great pleasure in writing to say your latest edition of Frederick Drimmer's 'Very Special People' has arrived from California thanx to my great friend and publisher, Mr. Forrest J. Ackerman. It is a beautiful book, believe me." In overall fine condition, with areas of thin paper to the lower corners of the letter. Accompanied by an unsigned glossy photograph showing a banner advertising Eck as 'the most remarkable man alive.'
