Sought-after limited edition of Picasso's Le Carmen des Carmen

Signed book: Le Carmen des Carmen. Limited edition, numbered 117/275. Paris: Éditions Français Réunis, 1964. Loose as issued in wrappers with a reproduction of the title handwritten by Picasso printed on the front panel; original jute-covered box with red lettering on spine, 11.25 x 15.25, 168 pages. Signed boldly on the limitation page in dark red crayon, “Picasso,” and countersigned in ballpoint by Louis Aragon. Autographic condition: fine. Book condition: VG+/None in a VG- case, with splits to the corners of the case and some rubbing to the spine. The edition's set of four aquatints, one lithograph, and one drypoint are not included.

The limitation page reads (translated): “The present edition was printed in 275 copies of which: 245 on Arches, numbered from 1 to 245, comprising an original lithograph in colors and 4 original etchings, 25 copies of collaborators remaining out of commerce, and 30 copies on Japanese mother-of-pearl, with lithography and 5 original etchings, 4 of which have large margins, on Japon. These copies, 5 of which are for non-commercial collaborators, are numbered from I to XXX. All copies bear the signature of the artist and the author of the Print Finish. The 4 etchings with large margins of the master copies are also signed by the artist. No. 117. Coppers and stones of the lithographs were scratched after printing.”
