Partly-printed DS, one page, 20.75 x 15.75, October 30, 1888. Membership certificate for the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. In part: "Know ye, that Brigadier General Gates Phillips Thruston, U. S. Vols., Having been specially distinguished for faithful services…was received as a Companion of the First Class of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States." Nicely signed at the conclusion by Hayes (using his uncommon full signature), and countersigned by recorder John P. Nicholson. The red seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. Impressively matted and framed to an overall size of 31 x 26. In very good to fine condition, with light soiling and creasing, and irregular toning to the side edge. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.
