Description

Rare photo of the Lennons during their 'Bed in for Peace' protests, signed by John while he was still with The Beatles

Glossy 10 x 8 photo of John Lennon and Yoko being interviewed in Room 1742 at Montreal's Queen Elizabeth Hotel during their famous 'Bed-in for Peace' campaign, signed in bold black felt tip, "John Lennon, 69" and "Yoko Ono." In very good condition, with overall creasing and crazing to the emulsion.

Newly wedded couple John Lennon and Yoko Ono used the idea of a non-violent ‘sit-in’ protest and adjusted it accordingly to suit their honeymoon, which was spent cuddled in the presidential suite at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel from March 25-31, 1969. Their ‘Bed-ins for Peace’ became instant fodder for the front page, with the couple, intent on spreading their anti-war message, inviting the world's press into their hotel room every day between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. After Amsterdam—and a brief detour from the Bahamas—the couple called Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel their home from May 26th to June 1st. On their final day at the hotel, Lennon and Ono recorded the peace anthem ‘Give Peace a Chance’ with the vocal help of Timothy Leary, Tommy Smothers, Dick Gregory, Murray the K, Allen Ginsberg and others.

Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, who states that it "is highly likely that, after the photo was taken, it was quickly developed and brought back to the event for signing. There was ample time for this to occur, and both the signature style and the type of marker used to sign both match up precisely with those of the 'Bed In.' This was a monumental event in the history of John Lennon, which occurred while he was still in The Beatles, during a break from the 'Abbey Road' recording sessions. John Lennon signed items directly linked to the 'Bed in for Peace' are quite rare and highly desirable."
