James Monroe

Attractive partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 13.75 x 17.5, March 28, 1820. President Monroe appoints Zachariah W. Nixon as a "Lieutenant in the Navy in the Service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by President Monroe, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Smith Thompson. The beige Navy Department seal remains affixed to lower vignette. In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges, and light toning and foxing.
