Description

"The work being carried out in the vicinity of the Western Wall should be expedited as much as possible"

TLS in Hebrew, one page, 6.5 x 8.25, Israeli Minister of Defense letterhead, October 21, 1968. Letter as Israeli Minister of Defense to Chief Rabbi of Israel Rishon LeZion, in full (translated): "Thank you very much for your letter of the third day of the Feast of Tabernacles 5729. I also concur that the work being carried out in the vicinity of the Western Wall should be expedited as much as possible and that it should be carried out as planned. I will try to get into the matter and to do the best I can." In fine condition.

Referring to the holy site of the Western Wall in Jerusalem, this is an important letter by Israel's Defense Minister. Israel had gained control of the site on June 10, 1967, at the end of the Six-Day War. The nation built a new plaza there, creating a destination for worship and public gatherings.
