Description

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, July 23, 1963. Letter to Freddie Fields and David Begelman of Creative Management Associates, in part: "I have delivered to you a letter which clears the record regarding Oscar Steinberg's letter of June 27, 1963. Will you please accept my strong conviction on a related subject: That you should feel free at all times and by all proper means to deal directly, vigorously and uncompromisingly with any person or combination of persons who threaten you and/or me in our legitimate pursuits…It is important to me to know that you will bring strength and purpose to the elimination of all obstacles which are placed in your way by outsiders, and that you will resolutely join issue with all those who because of your close relationship to me desire to thwart your objectives." Neatly signed at the conclusion by Garland and countersigned by Nanci Shelby as a witness. In fine condition, with light toning over much of the page. Steinberg was an accountant who had audited the books of Garland's company, Kingsrow Enterprises, and discovered numerous discrepancies and suspect entries. The episode is detailed in Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland by Gerald Clarke.
