Rare vintage glossy 3.5 x 5.5 Beatles Fan Club photo of the band posing around a chair with stacked instruments, signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint by George Harrison and John Lennon, in fountain pen by Paul McCartney, and in black ballpoint by Ringo Starr. In very good condition, with overall splotchy staining to the signed side, affecting only appearance. The consignor notes that a small number of these photographs were developed from the original negative and given to The Beatles fan club to be signed and sent to very early applicants to the fan club between January and March 1963. During this period Lennon was experimenting with his signature so the ‘J’ in John and the ‘L’ in Lennon look different as compared to his usual autograph.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, and by a letter of provenance from the original recipient: “The picture signed on the reverse by all four members of The Beatles was obtained by me in the first few days of January 1964. I had attended a concert at The Liverpool Empire theatre in Liverpool just before Christmas in December 1963 and been invited backstage by a friend but missed getting the group’s autographs at that time. However someone my friend knew who has a link with The Beatles Fan Club, arranged for me to collect this signed photo in the first two or three days of January 1964 from the NEMS shop in central Liverpool.”
