Amazing vintage matte-finish 9 x 11.25 photo of Picasso with a cigarette in hand, beautifully signed and inscribed across the top in blue ballpoint, "Pour mon cher ami Douglas Cooper, Picasso, le 9.10.61," with a charming sketch of a bull in profile below. Reverse bears a Joel Mariaud credit stamp. In fine to very fine condition. Cooper was a noted Picasso scholar and collector who befriended the artist; in addition to publishing works on Picasso, he helped to organize exhibitions of his works. Boasting a wonderful sketch of a bull—a frequent subject in Picasso's works, including the iconic 'Guernica'—this is the quintessential Picasso signed photograph, and the first we have offered that incorporates a sketch.
