As regards the soloists I do not know what is the custom in German, namely, whether the conductor can bring his own soloists. In this connection I should also like to know what the illustrious and celebrated maestros will do who will be my colleagues in the direction of the concerts. If the Berlin orchestra has the best artists available I do not believe that it will be necessary to have other soloists. As regards the program of the first concert, I cannot say as yet how I should like to arrange it…I do not know whether some grand symphony by Richard Strauss, or by Joh. Brahms, or by Goldmark, or by Tchaikovsky would be well received, that is, some symphony which is not too well known, or whether it would be better to play a symphony by Beethoven or Mozart. Besides, I should like to present some Italian classic (kindly pardon a little patriotism on my part), Corelli, Cherubini, or others. It is my intention to form a program according to the taste of the Berlin public." In very good to fine condition, with clear tape repairs to splitting along the hinge and horizontal fold.
