Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Pennsylvania (1739-1813) who served as the first president of the Philadelphia Bank. ADS signed "Geo. Clymer," one page, 7.75 x 3, September 7, 1802. Clymer writes a promissory note, in full: "Sixty days after date I promise to pay to Samuel Meredith, or order, without Defalcation, Fourteen hundred and fifty dollars, value received." Signed at the conclusion by Clymer, and also signed by Samuel Meredith (1741-1817), a Philadelphia merchant who was a delegate to the Continental Congress and later served as Treasurer of the United States in Washington's administration. In very good to fine condition, with light toning, and some old repairs on the reverse.
