Presidential naval commission for a WWI commander

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 15 x 19, July 3, 1926. President Coolidge appoints John R. Y. Blakely as a "Rear Admiral in the Navy…in the service of the United States." Signed crisply at the conclusion by Calvin Coolidge, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Curtis D. Wilbur. The blue Navy Department seal remains affixed to the lower vignette. In fine condition, with light edge toning. John Russell Young Blakely (1872-1942) was a Rear Admiral of the United States Navy and a recipient of the Navy Cross and the Navy Distinguished Service Medal; he held command of the following ships: the USS Des Moines, the USS Seattle, and the USS Arizona.
