Description

Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Benj. Harrison,” one page, 15.75 x 19.25, July 7, 1892. President Harrison appoints Stephen W. Quackenbush as "Captain in the Marine Corps." Signed at the conclusion by Benjamin Harrison, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Benjamin F. Tracy. The blue Navy Department seal remains affixed to lower vignette. In fine condition, with a light diagonal bend to the lower left corner area. Captain Quackenbush led a decorated military career that included service on numerous ships, including the USS Portsmouth, the USS Franklin, and the USS Newark.
