President Hayes recognizes the appointment of Lewis Joel as "Consul of Her Brittanic Majesty, for the State of Georgia, to reside at Savannah." Signed at the conclusion by Rutherford B. Hayes, and countersigned by acting Secretary of State William Hunter. Embossed white star seal remains affixed to lower left. Archivally cloth-matted and framed with an engraved plaque and large color portrait to an overall size of 38.75 x 24.5 In fine condition, with intersecting folds.
