Description

Confederate general and politician (1806-1863) who served as secretary of war under President Buchanan, the 31st governor of Virginia, and lost the crucial Battle of Fort Donelson. Partly-printed DS, one page, 10 x 8, July 10, 1849. As governor of Virginia, Floyd appoints George Hunter "as First Lieutenant in the Hundred & Third Regiment of the line in the 18th Brigade and 3d Division of the Virginia Militia." The white paper seal affixed at the bottom remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with a trimmed bottom portion, small areas of paper loss along the intersecting folds, and faint irregular toning.
