Union general (1815-1862) who was killed in action during the Battle of Baton Rouge. Civil War-dated partly-printed DS, signed “T. Williams, Maj: 5th Art'y,” one page, 11 x 8.5, July 27, 1861. Document certifying the discharge of Private William D. Snyder from the "Ninth Regiment of Penna. Vols." Signed at the conclusion by Williams as mustering officer, and countersigned by his commanding officer George D. Hand. In very good to fine condition, with old repairs to some separations.
