Official color satin-finish 14.25 x 11 White House photo of President Nixon talking with John B. Connally during a barbecue at the latter's Texas ranch on April 30, 1972, signed in the lower border in black felt tip by both. Reverse bears a White House credit stamp. In very good condition, with light creasing in the borders, and an area of emulsion loss on Connally's jacket.
John B. Connally (1917-93) was wounded by one of bullets that struck President Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Connally had served as US Secretary of the Navy under JFK and was Governor of Texas from 1963-69. He served as Secretary of the Treasury from 1971-72, initially refusing to take the position unless Nixon helped George H. W. Bush—thus saving Bush's political career (Nixon appointed Bush as US Ambassador to the UN). Nixon was 'awed' by Connally, and Henry Kissinger noted that Connally was the only cabinet member that Nixon did not disparage behind his back.
