Accompanied by a first edition of his novel The Loved One, hardcover with dust jacket, signed and inscribed on the first free end page in fountain pen by his brother, the novelist Alec Waugh, "For Lily, from the author's brother as a messenger and special pleader (see enclosed card), /A/, June 30, 1948." The card referenced is no longer present.
