American minister and politician (1750-1801) who was the first Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Partly-printed DS, signed “Fred'k A. Muhlenberg, Speaker,” one page, 8.25 x 6.5, December 28, 1781. Pay order issued to Pennsylvania State Treasurer David Rittenhouse, in full: "Pay John Proctor Esquire, the sum of Fifty three pounds five shillings it being for Fifty One Days attendance in Assembly and mileage." Signed below by Muhlenberg. In very good to fine condition, with splitting to the tops of the vertical folds.
