Description

TLS as president-elect, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, February 25, 1933. Letter to friend and philanthropic partner Basil O'Connor concerning his stock holdings, written one week before he would assume office as president. In part: "The 500 Tramp Consolidated is worthless, as is the one Straight Filament Pfd. The 100 Motherlode, the 100 Bulova and the 50 General American Investors have some value. I would suggest that when we arrange on Tuesday for the trusteeing of my securities you can turn these certificates over to the trustees." In very good to fine condition, with creasing, and two file holes, to the left edge. An interesting letter regarding the appropriate disposition of the president's wealth prior to his taking office, a subject that remains a hot topic in today's politics.
