Baltimore lawyer (1779-1843) who was inspired to write the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ after he witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British in 1814. Bank of Columbia check, 6 x 3, filled out and signed by Key, "F. S. Key," payable to Mrs. Peggy McLaughlin for $42.50, May 14, 1806. In very good condition, with mounting remnants to reverse. From the collection of Dr. Lawrence E. Miller.
