Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Hampshire (1730-1785), who commanded a brigade of New Hampshire militia at Saratoga in 1777, and then the following year at Rhode Island. Revolutionary War-dated ALS signed “W. Whipple,” one page, 7.5 x 9, March 7, 1777. Letter to Joshua Brackett of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, full: "This will be handed you by Mr. Jackson one of the managers of the State Lottery whose business to the Eastward is to dispose of Tickets, in which I doubt not he will receive every assistance in your power to give him. By this gent'm I shall expect to receive a long letter from you & another from Mrs. B who has not favored me with a line since I left Portsm'th."
