Description

ALS, one page, 5.25 x 8, Daily Tribune letterhead, November 24, 1861. Letter to C. S. Lincoln, in part: "I hold myself engaged to you for the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 18th. But I would rather not give my new Lecture on The Nation. One reason is that this Lecture is necessarily Political, and would thus displease some of your people; while my other Lectures have no such character. I wish you would choose one from among these: 'Great Men,' 'Self-Made Men,' or 'America from the Missouri to the Pacific'; but if you insist on 'The Nation,' I will give that." Mounted, double-matted, and framed with the original mailing envelope (addressed in Greeley's hand) and an oval portrait to an overall size of 18 x 19. In fine condition.
