Description

LS signed "Wm. McKinley, Jr.," one page, 5 x 7, House of Representatives letterhead, June 17, 1889. Letter to the Commissioner of Pensions, James R. Tanner, in full: "I hand you herewith a letter just received asking that an order be made for immediate examination. I trust the same will be granted." Matted and framed with a photo of McKinley to an overall size of 13 x 16. In very good to fine condition, with light wrinkling and intersecting folds. James R. Tanner (1844-1927) was an American soldier and civil servant who is best known for having lost both his legs below the knee at the Second Battle of Bull Run.
