Description

American artist and the first African-American painter to gain international acclaim (1859-1937). His oil painting Sand Dunes at Sunset, Atlantic City, which hangs in the Green Room at the White House, is the first painting by an African-American artist to have been purchased for the permanent collection of the White House. Rare fountain pen signature, "H. O. Tanner, Trepied, Aug. 18th, 1911,” on an off-white 6.5 x 4.5 album page. In fine condition.
