Description

American tennis player known as 'Little Mo,' (1934-1969) who was the winner of nine Grand Slam singles titles in the early 1950s. In 1953, she became the first woman to win all four Grand Slam tournaments during the same calendar year. The following year, in July 1954, a horseback riding accident seriously injured her right leg and ended her competitive tennis career at age 19. Vintage glossy 2.25 x 8 photo of Connolly posing with her tennis racquet, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To the Ken Brownes, with my very best of wishes—Maureen Connolly.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in her own hand and postmarked January 30, 1956.
