Description

Early American military figure and politician (1751-1815) who served as Chief of Engineers of the Army Corps of Engineers, the first superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and was elected to the Fourteenth United States Congress. Autograph check, 7.5 x 3, filled out and signed by Williams, "Jon Williams," payable to Benjamin Smith or bearer for $20, April 27, 1796. In fine condition, with unobtrusive cancellation cuts touching the signature.
