Description

World War II-dated TLS signed “Melvin,” one page, 8 x 10.5, August 28, 1944. Affectionate letter to his wife Marie "Rosanne" Willcox, which consists mostly of family affairs, the children, and household fixes back home. In part: "Alston crying when Melvin hollered at Dolly and your soothing him with a music box and trying not to let him see you smile at the incident, is so amusing. I wish I could see that. He must be a self willed fellow, as you say. I wish I were not missing all these things. The fact that he won't be scolded shows that he has an autocratic attitude, and his watching you to see if you smile at his doings, is wonderful, and indicative of a keen intelligence. I wish all the time that I could see him. I hope I can soon." Purvis writes his full signature to the upper border and adds a handwritten postscript at the conclusion: "I long for you every moment—I live only for the time when I can see you. I adore you." In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing, and a light paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
