Description

French writer (1790-1869) best known for his autobiographical poem 'The Lake,' who also worked as a diplomat and politician in the Second Republic. ALS in French, signed “Lamartine,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8, May 28, 1854. Letter to a "Dear and Illustrious Colleague," in part (translated): "Your letters are the most beautiful protestation against these years which were complaining and of which you ought to boast…I am proud that my weak biographical pamphlets occupy a momentum of genius of a master of the great history…I had stopped at your door only to get news from you and to mention to you my affection. The Labor Improbus is the history of Turkey, the 3rd volume now takes away every morning of my life…reserve for me your affection of colleague, of adopted compatriotism, but, above all, of master and of friend." In fine condition, with light offset of a typed translation lightly showing through from the reverse of the last page. Accompanied by a full translation, an engraved portrait bearing a facsimile signature, and a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
