Slocum, a stalwart of the Republican Party in Rhode Island who had connections to the most moneyed and powerful of the American aristocracy. In full: "Happy Birthday! Laura and I send our best wishes as you celebrate your special day. We hope the coming year is filled with happiness and good health." Bush adds a handwritten postscript, "Warm regards, Eileen." In fine condition, with a light bend to the upper left corner.
