Important Danish composer (1865-1931) best known for his six grandly scaled symphonies, a number of which bear such evocative subtitles as "The Expansive" (No. 3) and "The Inextinguishable" (No. 4). Uncommon vintage sepia 6.75 x 9 three-quarter-length portrait of Nielsen by Georg Lindstrom, affixed to its original 10.25 x 13 studio mount, signed on the upper mount in black ink by Nielsen, who adds an inscription to "Thorvald Aaguard." Photo is dated December 28, 1908, and affixed to a same-size cardstock mount. In very good condition, with heavy horizontal creasing (one crease passing through his face), and staining and discoloration to the mount. Neilsen collaborated with Aaguard for a collection of songs for local Danish high schools.
