Description

TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, November 18, 1965. Letter to Judge George T. Washington of the US Court of Appeals, accepting his retirement. In part: "I have your letter of November 8th informing me of your decision to retire…In acknowledging your notification of retirement, I congratulate you on your many years of distinguished public service in the Executive as well as in the Judicial Branch of the Government. I am thankful that you will continue to serve, although with a less active schedule, as a Senior Judge. I extend to you my best wishes for your future welfare and happiness." In fine condition, with a rusty paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by Judge Washington's retained carbon copy of his letter to President Johnson, informing the president of his decision to retire.
