Description

New Zealand-born physicist and chemist (1871-1937) who discovered the concept of radioactive half-life; he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908. TLS signed “E. Rutherford,” one page, 8 x 10, Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge letterhead, July 9, 1927. In full: "I am very glad to hear that the friends of H. F. Osborn are arranging to celebrate his seventieth birthday. I have much pleasure in enclosing my signature to add to the resolution." In fine condition, with a rusty paperclip impression to the top edge. Henry Fairfield Osborn was an American geologist, paleontologist, and eugenist, and the president of the American Museum of Natural History for 25 years.
