Description

The Johnsons inscribe for a lauded health activist

Color glossy 7.25 x 9.25 photo of President and First Lady Johnson, affixed to the original 11.75 x 14.25 paperstock mount, signed and inscribed on the mount in black ink, "To Mary Lasker—from her friends, Lady Bird and," and in fountain pen, "Lyndon B. Johnson," with Lady Bird adding the date below, "Christmas 1966.” In very good to fine condition, with two punch holes to the left side, and some rippling and dampstaining to the lower right edge, most of which could be matted out. Lasker was an American health activist and philanthropist, who worked to raise funds for medical research and founded the Lasker Foundation. She helped convince Eleanor Roosevelt to endorse Lyndon Johnson's efforts to become the 1960 Democratic nominee, and Lady Bird glowingly mentions Lasker in her book A White House Diary. Lasker was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969.
