Partly-printed DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 15.75 x 12.5, January 24, 1881. President Hayes appoints P. Henry Carpenter as "Postmaster at South Bridge, in the County of Worcester, State of Massachusetts." Signed at the conclusion by Hayes, and countersigned by Postmaster General Horace Maynard. Lower left bears gold foil Post Office seal with attached red ribbon. Handsomely double-matted and framed to an overall size of 21.75 x 18.5. Intersecting folds, some scattered light toning from prior seal over signature, as well as a bit of other scattered light toning and creasing, otherwise fine condition.
