Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in his own hand, and a postcard depicting a map tracing Roosevelt's journey through Africa. Just after leaving the White House, Roosevelt famously undertook the Smithsonian-Roosevelt African Expedition in 1909-1910; this trip to Africa was a defining moment in Roosevelt's post-presidential legacy, even resulting in his authorship of African Game Trails, a book on the subject.
