Description

American property tycoon (1792-1875) who inherited most of his father John Jacob Astor's fortune and earned the nickname 'the landlord of New York.' Partly-printed DS, signed “John Jacob Astor pr. Wm. B. Astor his atty",” one page, 8.25 x 13, August 27, 1834. Document certifying a mortgage, in part: "I William B. Astor attorney in fact for John Jacob Astor of the City of New York Merchant, Do hereby Certify That a certain Mortgage…made and executed by Daniel H. Weed to the said John Jacob Astor to secure the payment of the sum of five hundred and fifty Dollars with interest…is paid." Signed at the conclusion by William B. Astor as John Jacob Astor's attorney, and countersigned twice by Commissioner of Deeds Isaac Young. In fine condition, with slight edge chipping.
