Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 15.5 x 19.5, June 24, 1898. President McKinley appoints Edgar Jadwin as "Major, Third Regiment Volunteer Engineers, in the service of the United States." Boldly signed at the conclusion by McKinley and countersigned by Secretary of War Russell A. Alger. The blue seal affixed to the lower left remains fully intact. In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and toning, upper left corner loss, and chipping to the right edge. Jadwin went on to oversee construction of the Panama Canal and construction efforts during World War I in Europe. Eventually Jadwin rise to become the commanding general of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
