Description

President Harding helps a friend evade jury duty

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, May 22, 1922. Letter to J. C. Woods, the manager of Harding's newspaper The Marion Star. In full: "I am referring your case to the Department of Justice, and if there is any consistent way to do so they will have you excused from jury service. I assume that you will hear directly from Toledo in case it is possible to excuse you. I am only writing you to let you know that I have done all that it is possible for me to do consistently."
