The First Battle dedicated to a notable New England poet

Signed book: The First Battle: A Story of the Campaign of 1896. Chicago: W. B. Conkey Company, 1896. Leatherbound hardcover, 6.5 x 9.5, 629 pages. Signed and inscribed on an opening presentation page in black ink, "Mrs. Ella Wheeler Wilcox of New York, W. J. Bryan, with thanks for the closing poem. Mch 4—1897. In fine condition. Wilcox was a prominent author and poet who is best remembered for her work Poems of Passion. Her poem, 'An Inspiration,' can be found on the final page of the book.
