Written from the Senate Chamber, a letter to Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, in full: "I beg to enclose papers forwarded to me from Boston, to secure the discharge of a soldier from the Army of the U. S. Mr. Griggs I know to be a Justice of the Peace & I recognize his handwriting." In fine condition, with old tape reinforcements on the reverse of horizontal mailing folds.
