"I expect the sympathy of England for Hungary will not remain barren"

Hungarian statesman (1802-1894) who played a leading role in bringing parliamentary government to that country. Letter written in the hand of Ferenc Pulszky and signed by Kossuth while exiled in England, in part: "I stated it publicly & privately that I expect the sympathy of England for Hungary will not remain barren. For the purpose of disseminating intelligence in Hungary & developing the true sense of the principle of non-intervention in England I desire to have the command of several thousand pounds…I request you send the amount of the subscription going on in Manchester, as soon as possible to me, as I leave England on the 20th and must arrange all matters previous to my departure."
