Coolidge promotes a storied naval commander

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 15 x 19.5, August 13, 1924. President Coolidge appoints James O. Richardson as a "Captain in the Navy." Signed at the conclusion by Coolidge, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Curtis D. Wilbur. Blue naval department seal remains affixed to lower left. In very good to fine condition, with light wrinkling and several horizontal folds. Richardson served as a highly decorated officer in the United States Navy for over four decades, including two years as commander of the Pacific Fleet as admiral; he was succeeded by Husband E. Kimmel.
