Letter to friend and landscape consultant Vernon Russell-Smith, in part: "I have been thinking about the present from the…conservancy that you told me about. It occurred to me that what would be most useful—and appropriate—would be apple trees to plant an orchard with the small field just beyond the kitchen garden. Apparently it used to be an orchard until some clot removed it. I feel it would make the whole difference…but it may require too many trees for the amount of money they have? Perhaps we could look at the area where you are down next?" In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in his own hand.
