Description

Queen Alexandra

Queen Consort to Edward VII of England (1844-1925) and mother of George V. ALS in German, signed “Alexandra,” four pages on two adjoining black-bordered sheets, 4.5 x 7, Sandringham, Norfolk letterhead, January 1, 1898. Written on New Year's day, a letter to a friend, in part (translated): "I am very sorry to hear that you are still so unhappy about your poor unhappy Jacky. But as you yourself had him destroyed truly no one could sympathize with you or imagine that you ever loved him very much. And how is it possible to destroy your own devoted dog because in his excitement over a strange dog he gave your hand some bite or other—that I can never understand (for how often have I not been bitten by mine in the past) and truly I could not give you a replacement for the madly affectionate high-spirited…Jacky. No, for my part you must excuse me. This comes with my wishes for a right joyful blessed New Year—with health restored and freedom from all worry." In fine condition.
