American comic actor (1895–1963) who appeared in over 400 films, but is best remembered for his roles in many short films for Columbia Pictures, frequently as the foil to The Three Stooges. Rare vintage matte-finish 7 x 9 early portrait of Dent by Witzel of New York, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To my friend, Harvey Jansman, Sincerely, Vernon Dent, 8/6/20.” In very good to fine condition, with some chipping to rough, trimmed edges (touching end of the signature and inscription).
