Description

Gorgeous oversized Otto Dyar portrait of ‘Carole Lombard’

Stunning vintage heavyweight glossy 10.75 x 13.75 Otto Dyar portrait of Lombard artfully bathed in shadow, signed and inscribed in white ink, “For Peggy, Wishing you always the best, Sincerely, ‘Carole Lombard.’” Blindstamped in the lower right corner by the photography studio. Reverse bears a pair of Paramount Pictures stamps, as well as collector’s ink notations indicating that the photo was taken during production of a film she starred in with future husband William Powell. In fine condition, with some minor surface creases and marks, and a pin hole to three corner tips. Lombard and Powell starred in three films together: Man of the World and Ladies’ Man, both released in 1931 only weeks before their wedding, and My Man Godfrey, released in 1936, a full three years after the couple divorced. Signed by Paramount in 1930, Lombard was first credited with the revised screen name, “Carole Lombard,” with the added ‘e,’ in the film Fast and Loose; her wry usage of quotations suggests that the actress was still adjusting to her new name, making this a particularly early and uncommon example. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
