Infamous French courtesan (1743–1793) who was the last mistress of Louis XV. Accused of aiding emigres from the Revolution, she was imprisoned, tried, and executed during the Reign of Terror. ANS in French, signed “La Comtesse du Barry,” one page, 6 x 3.75, February 15, 1782. In part (translated): “At Mle. Judot’s request, please pay Madame Savant in settlement of all her bills to date the sum of three hundred pounds, for which I will be charged…Payable in three installments.” In fine condition, with light show-through from several endorsements on the reverse. Accompanied by an unsigned engraving. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
