Description

Richard Howe

British naval officer (1726–1799) best known for his service in the American Revolution, during which he acted as a naval commander and a peace commissioner. ALS signed “Howe,” one page, 7.5 x 9.75, December 9, 1794. Howe comments on a manuscript, in part: “There are certainly some considerable inaccuracies in the publication. But I am surprised that the loss of men professed to have been suffered in the Montaigne was judged fit to be generally circulated.” Gorgeously triple-matted and framed to an overall size of 13.75 x 16. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light toning, a bit darker in the signature area. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
